a fun ride

First of all, let me get thing right - quality-wise, this film is horrible. Horrible acting, audio, special effects, plot, pretty much everything. But I still enjoyed this flick. Why? Well, the answer is simple. I could clearly see the actors were having a great time working together. I'm not sure whether they are friends or somehow related, and frankly I don't care. I liked the chemistry between them. Plus some of the jokes they pulled, even though they were old ones, seemed to work. If you can enjoy amateurish (probably even home made) sci-fi movie which very limited budget but much love for the product, give this one a try. Just don't expect (and also don't compare it to) a big Hollywood production.

Amateurish is a polite term to describe this movie

I needed 2 minutes to give a review of this 'movie' (i use the term loosely). The acting terrible, the CGI terrible, an annoying rock soundtrack in the background all the time, the audio awful. Don't bother watching this. Amateurish is a polite term to describe this. I was curious because the plot synopsis looked interesting but quite frankly this is just plain embarrassing. Did they use real actors or are they all extras because the real actors got wind of this farce? I cannot believe this mess was ever made. Who would buy this to watch on DVD? Though i doubt it would even go straight onto DVD even though it would never warrant a cinema release in a million years. I only pray that in a thousand years time when a future civilisation examines 21st century culture it doesn't come across this terrible effort. They'll die laughing. Completely completely inept.

Spectacular. Truly a wonder. This movie is just ahead of its time. People had trouble following the brilliant plot that was sublime in its complexity. The universe of Merc Force is one of wonder and magnificence. James N. Panetta is truly a creative genius. Its astounding Hollywood has sat on a film of this caliber. Exposing the angst inherent in the human condition, Merc Force represents a true tour de force of the human psyche. Panetta has clearly developed a unique and prescient style that will undoubtedly be consistently emulated and imitated for decades to come. All I have left to say is, WHEN IS MERC FORCE 2 COMING OUT!!!!!!!

More ambition than budget, but a fun ride

I have to think that a lot of people miss the humor in this one. Yes, the special F/X are hokey, but in 2003 (probably more like 2001 and 2002 for post-production) home computers weren't the i7 8GB machines we have now. Even the video-game looking F/X and CG sets in this movie took a LOT of work, I'm sure.

Let's look at we do have: An interesting, if not totally unique cast of characters Androids, Cyborgs, a machine race and a floating tank Automatic weapons fire. Laser battles Space Battles Surprise super-human powers And Humor throughout

On the negative side, the audio was atrocious at times, but that's sort of par for the course with these "shot on video with money I could have used to buy a pre-owned Ford Festiva" type of movies.

There's at least one great fight scene.

The whole thing sort of plays like a pilot that was never picked up. Plot lines come in at strange times, we feel like there's a lot more to learn about all of the characters and you can help but think that with 2 or 3 million dollars and an entire studio behind them the filmmakers could have made an excellent TV premiere.
