A sweaty, steamy fever dream
jsmith-9916 June 2005
The Legend of Crazy George is a campy trip through the decadent rural south, with memorable characters, locations and situations that drive the story forward, and create a surreal and terrifying world. There is fine acting all around, and the secondary characters are genuine and compelling. the pacing fits the story, and there are some brilliant and effective uses of downtime. The atmosphere of the rural south is captured so well that you'll sweat while watching the film, and feel like bathing afterward. the story is meandering puzzle, and by the end, George Furman has created a unique and twisted universe just slightly askew from reality.

Ah, The Legend of Crazy George. If you are reading this before you watch the movie you are wasting your time...quit being a wuss and just watch the movie and make up your own mind. You may not like it, but regardless it is worth the experience. I personally can't write too much about it due to it's unclassifiable nature. It just is. Scary? Maybe to some. Twisted? Most definitely anyone would say this movie is that. And I guess that is why I like it and own a copy. And believe it or not, there is some damn fine acting in this movie as well. And hey, what is a horror film without a gratuitous nude scene? Just a horror film. The Legend of Crazy George is the only horror film I've seen that combines a great nude scene with...well you'll just have to see the movie...wouldn't want to get blacklisted my first day on this site for spoiling a good scene.

A road movie through Hell and places further South

The Legend of Crazy George premiered at the Fearless Tales Film Festival. Audience members where fiercely divided, calling it a work or crap or a feat of genius. The film is an art house horror flick whose surrealism pushes the limits of the genre. Crazy George is three films in one. Designed as a riddle, the film takes advantage of the idea that owners of the DVD will watch and re-watch this cult classic until all three level of the the mystery are solved. No rerun blues with Crazy George.

On the surface Crazy George is all whiskey, weed, and just a little bull - with enough blood, guts and nudity to keep horror fans salivating. Under the surface lurk two more stories. A tale of guts and gore resting upon the spirit of Dante's Inferno, an examination of hell and the prospect of redemption. Even deeper is the third story, an examination of evil and the possibility that Crazy George might actually be real and like the Devil locked in a duel with God. As some cast and crew members will tell you, there are true stories hidden the film which need to be taken seriously and hidden properly from those who can not, shall not, will not understand.

Here are your hints: "Just because you choose not to see it doesn't mean its not there" and "With out the shedding of blood there can be no redemption."

I want you to think about that quiet time!

Warning: Spoilers
I think the makers of The Legend of Crazy George really understood why people watch horror movies, which is to savor the gore and pain of the characters and the bloodlust they feel within themselves. They did a very good job of portraying that, with just enough gore not to gross anyone out, and really made a more hellish version of our world, with a sort of lazy chaos, a tragedy that the characters are trapped in. This movie is kind of elegant, I would say, with zero cheesy comedy, and deserves to be watched in a state of relaxation that can only be obtained through illicit drugs. Don't expect to understand it after the first time, but relax and try to see what it has in common with your life.
