Relive the Dead with this decent behind the scenes collection...
ryangilmer00728 November 2001
As Full Moon Entertainment does with most of its releases, a behind the scenes documentary is attached to the end of the video.

The documentaries all generally follow the same format, and this one is no different.

Basically, you are shown through different areas of the film (like say "conception" and "design", only with "Dead Hate the Living" titles). The films actors are all on-hand and interviewed(except maybe a couple of the minor ones, but almost all of the Zombies can be seen even if they are not interviewed) and some of the crew even discuss the movie.

This short documentary is even a tad original, although its concept may seem more like a Night of the Living dead movie at least you get a new or interesting spin on things (i.e. the movie is about making a movie in an abandoned hospital). This documentary does give some insight into the movie "The Dead Hate the Living". Its basically interesting and helps support the movie rather than just being an appendage like so many DVD documentaries.

Rating for this documentary and/ the movie it documents: 6/5

awful, full of themselves, and uninformative
movieman_kev18 October 2005
Wow, I'm speechless. Everyone in this documentary seems so very full of themselves, as if the film wasn't a load of crap. Like they don't know how horrid the film they made was. In addition to the air of delusions of grandeur, this just isn't that informative in the least bit and even at merely twenty minutes, it's still way too long. After a while this horrible documentary started giving me the hugest migraine. It was awful and all the participants came across as severely brain dead and full of it. Don't bother watching this. It will either depress, sadden, or infuriate you. Any way it WILL not turn out good.

My Grade: F

Uninformative, but worth checking out in case you enjoyed the movie!

Usually, I try to avoid watching documentaries and/or making-offs simply because they're tedious and also because they sometimes ruin the "magic" of a certain title. For "The Dead hate the Living", however, I really wanted to check the 20min. feature because the makers looked like such a bunch of jolly horror admirers. This low-budget film was obviously made BY horror fans FOR horror fans, so watching the making-off is pretty much like having a horror conversation among friends. It also actually raises hope for people who have the ambition of reaching something in the film industry! This documentary states that writer/director Dave Parker previously worked as an editor for Full Moon Productions and they offered him (and his actor-friends) the chance of doing 'their thing'. The result was a spirited and often ingenious horror tribute, definitely worth checking out in case you have a passion for horror. Since none of the cast members have any sort of star-status, the interviews come across more natural and totally unpretentious. They have no problem admitting their performances were inspired by other, more famous horror icons (it's great to know the spirit of Vincent Price still lives!!).

"The Dead Hate The Living" starred the unfortunate actor Matthew McGrory in one of his very first roles. Later, he gained a little fame because Tim Burton cast him as the friendly giant in "Big Fish". This sympathetic actor never really had the chance of enjoying the success. He died of natural causes in august of this year. He was only 32 years old.
