A publishing agent signs a pop self-help guru. Subsequently, with each word speaks,a "bodhi" tree on his property loses a leaf. He will die with the loss of the last leaf.
This is a dark and serious comedy at best. Yet,in my opinion,it succeeds by drawing the viewer into caring about the protagonist. A totally self-absorbed agent's lifestyle is transformed by a need to meter his words in order to lengthen his lifespan. He rediscovers a potential value to his immediate words and actions with every human encounter as time quickly elapses. Eddie Murphy sympathetically portrays his person's plight. We empathize with him because his situation is certainly ours; being reminded that our precious resources and time are small to do good in our lives and that we should not remain immersed in things which do not really matter.
