Odd, unsatisfying European-backdrop Hollywood porn
lor_22 December 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Ron Sullivan took his nom de porn Henri Pachard seriously for LADY BY NIGHT, traveling to France to make a "video without a country". Considering the intrinsic expense, it's a shame cast & crew didn't try harder.

A lovely modern château setting (looks like South of France) has Colleen Brennan and John Leslie as a bored married couple planning to relocate back to America soon. Opening sequence has no context, presenting future European porn super star Christophe Clark speaking French to Nina Hartley who doesn't understand him in an improvised sex scene. Its meaning is later revealed when we see Nina as a whore named Trixie working in France but not having learned the lingo. Brennan is moonlighting as a lady of the afternoon in the same brothel (Film's title proves to be meaningless).

The lousy script contrives for the umpteenth time to provide fake-porno-irony as Leslie ends up humping his own wife as substitute whore in the final reel, not recognizing her since she's wearing a mask (!). It's maddening how porn-makers assume their audience, those lonely folks who ultimately paid their salaries, is made up of complete idiots.

Along the way, Joey Silvera as Leslie's buddy is competent in his sex scenes but unconvincing as usual in his characterization. This being an international effort, there's new talent on display, with a Brit named Carina showing her stuff well. Change of scenery turns out to be ho-hum; I wonder what the distributor's comments were when Ron/Henri handed in this junk - maybe something like: "You flew all the way to France to shoot this big nothing?"
