  • In the winter shelter, in playful banter, man refers to a female visitor as a mule. She retorts by lifting her skirt to him to demonstrate she is more attractive than a mule. He pushes her backwards and kisses her passionately but nothing further. The man later arranges with his companions to be alone when she next visits, but they are all interrupted and enter to find the couple partially undressed. They dress, and the men rush off. No nudity.

Violence & Gore

  • Level of violence:7/10.
  • Many instances of people getting shot with lots of blood.

  • The violence in this movie is bloody and sometimes graphic.
  • A man is shot in the arm, bone, blood, and flesh are exposed briefly.

Profanity

  • Lots of racist and derogative comments are made about african americans. The non-PC n-word is used often, but it is in context; people actually spoke like that in those days (1860s). The s-word is used 7 or 8 times.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • People drink in saloons and smoke cigars.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The racism in this movie is pretty harsh and only reminds people about how badly black people were treated.
  • There is an amputation scene about halfway through the film. The cutting is not actually shown but the man is obviously in pain and struggles while he is held down.
