Excellent movie - and not just for TV.

Warning: Spoilers
This movie is great from start to finish. The acting, the actors, the story, writing, ending, and everything else that makes it up is terrific. It is showed pretty frequently on Lifetime, so try to catch it the next time it's on.

The acting is great. Kellie Martin is fabulous as usual. Here she plays a battered wife that seeks out for revenge. The entire cast does a superb job. Like I said, Martin is great in almost any role that she's given but she does a particularly good job in this movie. Her portrayal of an unhappy young wife trying to leave a marriage is nice.

The writing and the script is good. Especially the writing that is given to Martin's character. Her life and the incidents that occur in the marriage are shown in a certain light to make the audience sympathize with Katie Liner. No other way to tell the story than to let us see just how miserable one can get. Along with the pain and suffering.

*~spoiler~*

In the scene where the camera moves away from the Liner house after Katie confronts her husband, is interesting. We hear a gunshot but aren't sure as to who was shot. We find out that it is the young wife and mother who now has to be arrested by her own father. How can't you feel sad for her? Just for that short ten seconds or however long it took for me to realize that Katie was the killer was great. It all builds up and I think that everybody can feel good for her.

This movie is great not only because it has a great cast, but because it is a serious problem that many of women deal with. For anybody who deals with this awful problem, maybe it can help them. You never know.

For anyone who has not seen this yet, I'm not going to give the ending away but just say that I was very happy. If it would have ended in the other way that it could have, I would've been very disappointed. But that happens with most movies.

"If Someone Had Known" being one of my favorite TV movies, and starring one of my favorite actresses, I can say that I am able to view this film over and over. I just never get tired of it. Very well done.

Here's what I think the last lines of this movie should have been
wilsonandrewc29 January 2008
If I were the judge in this movie and when Katie (Goofy's son, Max's girfrliend, Roxanne from A Goofy Movie/Mona from Mickey's Twice Upon A Christmas (played by Kellie Martin)) was found not guilty by the jury and before Jimmy (Henry Mitchell from the TV series, Charmed (played by Ivan Sergei))'s family apologized to her, I would have told the witnesses to call the police next time they witness domestic violence instead of ignoring it for one reason or another implying how it also could have saved Katie from getting killed rather than her killing Jimmy and here's what the last lines of this movie would have been then;

Judge: Will the defendant please rise? Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, have you reached a verdict?

Jury Foreman: Yes, your honor! We have. We the jury find the defendant, Katherine Liner-Pettit not guilty.

Judge: Before we leave, there's something else that I wanted to say. How many of you have been hit? Who among you beats your wives? Well, this is against the law. This is wrong. And you know what? You watched it happen to the defendant, Katherine Liner-Pettit and you did nothing. You have a responsibility to the people that you care about. When you see them hurting or you see them in trouble, you step in and you call the police so that this does not happen again. Court is adjourned.

Marian Pettit: We're sorry for your pain.

Charles Pettit: Let's go.

Katie Liner: (as she is laying flowers at Jimmy's grave) You always promised me that tomorrow would be better. Tomorrow never came for us. Jimmy.

Katie Liner: (to her children) I'm going to make tomorrow better for both of you. I promise.

Beautiful sisterly friendship
I have to say that the scene in which Sharon (Kristin Dattilo) finds out about Katie's (Kellie Martin) problem is the best scene in the whole movie. When she flat-out asks her if Jimmy is how she got the black eye, and she races into the other room, I find that to be very real. Bravo to the director. I personally think that Kristin should have gotten a bigger part in the film.

Intruiging TV movie

This is one of Kellie Martin's best acting roles. As a young wife and mother who is at the mercy of her abusive husband, Ms. Martin takes a complex role and does an incredible job with it. The actors who play her parents are especially exceptional, and the scene where Ms. Martin tells off her father is a very powerful scene. Definitely an above average TV movie. Great job all around.

A really well done crime drama
videojohn7 April 2004
Although our 'justice system' is the best in the world sometimes things just go wrong. This story (based on true events) deals with spousal abuse in years past.

Since "OJ" & that trial, this is much less likely to happen again.

I especially liked the courtroom scenes and the way the camera(s) were used to show it all.

The writers did a 'super' job too.

A great surprise twist as well.
