Nestor & the femme fatale
guy-bellinger6 April 2010
Warning: Spoilers
This Second Season episode of the "Nestor Burma" TV series has all it takes to entertain: an appropriately convoluted plot, good actors (the best being Jean-Marie Winling in an astonishing double role), a fine soundtrack (with Guy Marchand obviously having a ball as he plays "How Insensitive" on the saxophone during the party sequence), an interesting use of actual locations (all the action is set in the limited area of the Louvre Palace). But what really adds spice to this otherwise traditional detective story is the fact that it shows Nestor Burma ... doing a bad job! Indeed poor Nestor, who, as you will have guessed, is only human, falls for Jenny, the beautiful young wife of the old millionaire who has hired him. As of the moment Jenny (attractive American-born actress Tonia Kinzinger) appears under his nose, dressed only in a body, doing dance exercises, pretending not to see him, Burma gets smitten by the love bug. And everybody knows that someone lovelorn is not the shrewdest of men. Hence the corpses that pile up unduly! On the other hand making a botch of his job does not prevent Burma from being insolent or disrespectful. Guy Marchand is perfect for the role of Burma and his arrogant disillusioned charm works wonders as usual. Well, you can easily spare an hour and half in his company.
