It's probably a lost gem, even for audiences from Poland. That's the second polish film I comment. A war one, in black in white and very different from what would have made the Hollywood industry. A very sad, downbeat and desperate movie, telling the odyssey of a group of men during German invasion - or occupation - in the early days of WW2. The characters are well described, although their motivations may stay unexplained. But that's a detail. The filming, acting and directing are surprising intense, vivid, and not flat or bleak as we could expect from an eastern country piece of work. From these countries, the western audiences may have not only good surprises. This story reminds me another comment I made a couple of years ago: IN TRANZIT, a German film that made me think of John Frankenheimer's THE TRAIN. A pure masterpiece.
