Predictable farce
malcolmgsw3 March 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This was a quota quickie clearly designed to support one of RKO's big Hollywood films. It features a lot of actors who made many of these type of films in the 30s.the male lead is Esmond Knight, who only a few years later would be blinded in the naval battle to sink the Bismark. Here he plays a rather standard character. The son of a rich father who doesn't work and sponges off his dad.He is having a liaison with June Clyde to whom he has written compromising love letters. He meets and falls for Rene Ray.However by the long arm of coincidence he is also romancing Clyde.Knights friend is played by Bruce Seton, who would make his name after the war on TV in "Fabian Of The Yard".Rays mother is played by the formidable Bertha Belmore.Clyde sings a couple of numbers and there are some laughs before the finale. However the climax is utterly predictable.
