A lesser Edgar Wallace
malcolmgsw14 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This film is based on a 1926 novel by Wallace. The film is set in America and Canada. This probably ties in with Gaumont British failed marketing strategy to distribute their films in the States.

At first it seems to be out of the mold of My Man Godfrey. A lord hiding in a tramps outfit. Constance Cummings, now based in the UK,is an orphan who prefers to marry a tramp rather than someone forced onto her.

The film starts to change from light comedy to thriller, rather inevitable in a Wallace story. He has to clear his name of murder. There is the usual denoument with the main characters present and Sinclair clears his name and obtains the sought after deed.

Only just over an hours running time, the film drags badly towards the end and it is a relief when the film ends.
