Old man Marshall gives his son, John, a bankroll to start in business for himself, because he is displeased with the young man's methods. John sees a pretty girl transferring from one street car to another at a certain corner. He sees her repeat the incident for several days and in order to facilitate becoming acquainted with her, he buys the cigar stand located at the transfer corner. Millie pretends to be a poor working girl, while John pretends to be a simple cigar seller. But Millie's mother is a wealthy widow. She and John's father become acquainted accidentally through their mutual insistence that each is trying to arrange a marriage between the young people. One evening a mysterious telephone message informs both parents that their offspring are eloping from the transfer corner. Each orders out the family automobile and they start in pursuit. John who is friendly with the bicycle cops and other police creates a blockade, in the excitement of which the parents are rudely arrested and taken to the police station. John agrees to "fix it" for the release if they will agree to his marriage to Millie.
