Warning: Spoilers
It's a streaming movie for young children. I think it's best to go into it understanding what it is. It has some morals for young kids (working on a team), and a lot of cartoony antics. I don't see it as better or worse than other movies you see in this age range. It's about what you expect. The story is coherent but rushed. It's not subtle about the message. Some jokes land, some almost land, and some don't. The animation is cheaper, but it's far from the worst I've seen. This is no Dingo Pictures production.

How much kids like this will probably depend on how much silliness they enjoy. It's very much on the goofy side.

While I do think there's plenty to critique, it's certainly not as bad as people are trying to make it out to be.

Personally, I like that they brought in new gadgets for Megamind - was worried we wouldn't see much more than the stuff he already had.

Introducing a lot of villains means we don't get too much development with any individual one here, but these are clearly gag villains.

Several jokes landed well, and a few were close. With a little more editing they would have hit harder.

It's very blunt. Imagine that it's targeted at telling 6-year-olds the moral of the story. The characters will just say what the moral is.

There is a surprising amount of action, actually. Considering the budget and how much needed to be animated, there are a lot of new additions to the series as well as a lot of motion. There are errors, but they're not things that most kids would probably care about or even notice.

The plot is on the rushed side, but it also doesn't stand still doing nothing. So while it's not perfectly paced, you don't have to wait around for something to happen, either.

Things lean toward the "cute" side. You don't have to worry about anything happening in this that will scare little kids. I didn't see anything political, either.

Honestly, some kids won't like this because not all kids like cute, silly things. But I can see plenty of little kids enjoying a character like Lord Nighty-Knight and his little teddy bear, or Behemoth.

There is some major pro-donut propaganda, though. So beware that your kids may ask for donuts.

All in all: if you know your kid's tastes and this sounds like something they'd be into, it should be fine. It's far from a perfect movie, but there's nothing bad in it to be worried about, and there's a fair amount of cute parts. Understand that this is not like the first movie, it's a movie for small kids, and there are probably plenty of small kids that would like it.
