Haul Out the Holly (2022 TV Movie)

Home Not So Alone

This Hallmark holiday comedy benefits from a clever script peppered with pop culture references. It also has a cast of comedic talents. As a result, it is a fun watch.

The story starts with Emily (Lacey Chabert) deciding to visit her parents for the Christmas holiday. When she arrives, they immediately leave for Florida, and she is left on her own. It's not such a bad deal, because she has just parted ways with her long-time boyfriend, so she can use time alone to consider her options and get over the breakup.

But her parents live on Evergreen Lane, where the homeowners association has rigid rules about the observance of Christmas. Soon she is visited by Jared (Wes Brown), the association president, who cites her for a lack of decorations.

There is a plan in play, and everyone seems to be in on it, except Emily. She reluctantly agrees to a minimal amount of decorating, but it won't be that easy: the entire week is filled with holiday-themed events. Will she fully embrace the Christmas spirit? Will she discover what game is at play on Evergreen Lane?

A special mention goes to Stephen Tobolowsky and Melissa Peterman, who get to play the crazy-funny kinds of characters they do so well. As for Lacey, a story like this is her bread and butter.
