If there is a dark horse Christmas story to pick for this week, this is the one I choose. First of all, it's got a bunch of weird performances by a motley crew of recognizable actors. You've probably seen most, if not all of them in one thing or another, so there's that. The story is about two young adults who buy a really nice cabin retreat vacation home, the only problem is they both signed the agreement on the same day, by a twist of fate mixed with realtor error and some kind of miracle. Who gets to keep the place? The rest of the film is about their two families staying at the place over the holidays under this one big roof, getting acquainted, and figuring out who will hold out long enough to win this huge cottage.
What an imaginative story, I didn't anticipate most aspects of the plot, so I was pleasantly surprised turn after turn, scene after scene. How refreshing, and much better than the average of all reviews indicates, which means there's some big brother out there who is making the ratings take a nose dive in order for families to miss out on a blessed thing. This is one of the better films, do yourself a favor and don't look at the low 6 stars it's received, read the actual reviews, notice they are predominantly above 8 stars, because this film is indeed 8.0 stars (or higher).
