There are mixed reviews, they are all over the map for 'Hall out the Holly'. I elected to skip it last year, had to delete a bunch of movies because my DVR was full and this one got the boot. I am revisiting all those that got canned and to my surprise this is not bad. In fact, since I'm in a glass is half full mood, I'd say this is half good. Ok, so what is it about? A woman comes home to visit her parents for Christmas after some years being away pursuing a career (typical Hallmark back story). But when she gets home, things start getting weird. Hallmark throws us a curveball, out with the usual drab, let's think outside the box for once and actually have actors that we recognize from mainstream television and movies. In fact, let's get a few.
It's a silly story about a neighborhood HOA that has laws about Christmas, which means people who live there have to abide by the rules of decorating and celebrating the holiday in such a way...so it's a strange plot, I know. It's all in fun, and silly, but it does smell of Stepford with a cult vibe somewhat...you'll see. Again, nothing scary, just a bit of neighborly propaganda and enthusiasm for the season. Chabert gives us one of her better performances for sure.
