Sonic 1 had a lot of noticeable issues plaguing the experience but Sega actually cared about the fans and thus a fantastic sequel to outdo the first by a wide margin in every way came along and it shows, this instantly blew up to become the best opening for a video game in history back in 1992.
Sonic 1 had a HUGE problem with its pacing and it's number 1 issue but Sonic 2 got rid of all that and instead there's 2 acts for zones+ very fast and speedy game+ barely any underwater zones. This game feels very fast except the only mediocre zone in the game, metropolis
The special stage ain't good but it's definitely better than Sonic 1's because you're running, which is associated with Sonic the hedgehog plus you actually want to get those chaos emeralds this time because you now have Super sonic which is always fun to play with.
Just like the first, this is ahead of its time. You now have more animations for Sonic making him more detailed. And adding Tails was an excellent decision because you now can play with you're friends or family making it more enjoyable. And the ending is really wholesome {bad ending}. Because Tails rescues Sonic from death because he is his best friend, no one has done that to a game at the time. Also the soundtrack slaps as well
9/10, A perfect sequel and I will always look at this game fondly with happiness.
