Why does a Black woman have to be in a cult and under the control of magic in order to be successful and beautiful? How is it that a Black woman that is articulate and well dressed is betraying her ethnicity? The message that was intended would have been worth watching but the message that was shown was a confused version of the idea and disappointing on numerous levels. I truly hope the book was better and achieved the goal attempted by the series. Even the book in the show portrayed Black people as violent and unloving according to the disclosed original ending. The topper for me was how all of this was supposed to be okay because it was at the behest of a Black woman. Hollywood can do better and this is just one more example of a miss.
