Pretty much perfect, a kung fu classic!
15 September 2023
The underrated Yuen Biao' gives a tremendous showing on this kung fu classic. Director/actor/fight choreographer/producer Sammo Hung is always reliable and one of the best in Hong Kong at these various roles in filmmaking. The Prodigal Son is solid from start to finish with great storytelling and characters, occasional humorous touches and amazing fight sequences. This is a excellent display of the Wing Chun style, which was also seen in other Sammo Hung films, but if I had to choose one that stands out among some of his similar work, I would regard The Prodigal Son as the best. Sammo Hung, Lam Ching Ying and Frankie Chan also appear. The Prodigal Son checks a lot of boxes and not only is this a great martial arts films, but a great movie as a whole and is very well made. A great watch, even for those not normally interested in martial arts films.
