A Rare Masterpiece of Wuxia
3 August 2023
For martial art flicks' fans, Wuxia genre is currently rare. Blades of the Guardians is such a film, or this case animation series. It has deep literature, artistic animation and hypnotic experience watching thia series every 30 minute episode.

In todays film industry, we only find CGI and melodrama martial art films and series because those sell well to the younger demographic audience.

Watching Blades of the Guardians brought back old style martial art style from movies/series in the 70s - 80s. We have several stylistic films in the 90s til now, but it is very rare. It reminds me of films like Hero, Ashes of Time, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, and those in similar artistic theme.

The fighting scenes are done swift and short, so it won't disturb the story too much. However, the impact of the fighting scenes are enormous to the story as a whole.

I'm quite surprise that this is Mr. Shu Firts directoral debut. He would have a long and worth watching career.

If you want to know what a masterpiece animation series looks like today, watch Blades of the Guardians. You'll be surprised. It's never a funny haha animation. It never drops down to brutally bloody animation. However, the animation is done perfectly suitable for the story.
