Crossroads (1942)
7/10
a compromised William Powell

It's 1935 Paris. David Talbot (William Powell) is a respected member of the French Foreign Service and newly married to Lucienne (Hedy Lamarr). A letter arrives demanding a large sum of money. The culprit Le Duc is caught at the money drop and brought to trial where he accuses Talbot of being professional thief Jean Pelletier. Talbot doesn't remember since losing his memories after an accident. Nightclub singer Michelle Allaine (Claire Trevor) and Henri Sarrou (Basil Rathbone) claim to know his past and are demanding to get the money.

It's an interesting mystery. There is some noir style. I like the final reveal, but it needs more setting up. I'm glad that he solves the case himself, but I don't see the audience figuring it out. I did question why he's going along with the scheme as the story unfolded. I really like a compromised Powell in this movie. I just need the final reveal to have a better setup.
