Fate: The Winx Saga (2021–2022)
6/10
Your run of the mill Teenager Netflix drama

Warning: Spoilers
Lets start with the cons.... There are some story loop holes in the writing between seasons 1 and 2.

The "teenagers" they cast look like their 29. Especially in the second season where bloom kinda looks like she is 30.

They do Terra hella dirty in the first season by making her the token fat girl and making her a blumbling awkward mess. She was obviously supposed to be a fat flora at the beginning, but then in season 2 flora is introduced as terras cousin.

Terra in season one is the earth magic and in their writing they focus very heavily on the plant aspect. Then in season 2 flora comes in and takes over as a flower fairies, and terra suddenly has her main power change to it being rock, which becomes evident when ***SPOILERS*** she transforms and her channeling her powers shows up as a diamond.

It seems as though they have no idea what they are doing with terra's character other then also adding in that not only is she the fat girl but now she is also the lesbian. I think she is just there to appeal to certain demographics and not really do more.

Aiesha's character really only seems like she is there to support blooms character and rescue her all the time. She never stands on her own as a POC and more specifically a black woman. This seems to be a running thing with any minority in this series where they fall into this support roll, but at least others have their own stand alone story plots that push them forward. Aiesha seems to always be there to push blooms story forward in some way or another. Even when it comes to her romance in season 2 with grey. Grey was just there to help the blood witches in their attempts to get to bloom, so he used Aiesha to get in and get close to her and her friends. She also has the least amount of character development out of anyone in the main cast between the two seasons. Even flora has more character development in her one season then Aiesha did in 2.

With all of the bad things i mentioned above there are a lot of good points. Most of the characters have good development that you can understand and follow easily. It does a good job helping you follow the sorry line (even with some weird loop holes and plot armor) It definitely does a good job honouring the source material and I like the way they show the fairy transformation. The wings are super cute and stylized depending on the magic of the person. The monsters arent too freaky looking.

The specialists do a good job of being meat head jocks. I like Sky's daddy issues with Andreas and Silva and how he seems to be working through it.

On the flip side of that coin i like Stella's rough relationship with her mother. They definitely wrote her character to be and become very redeemable and at times i like her more then bloom. I do find it weird that stella isnt blooms "foil" character however. Especially because in the Source material thats exactly what she waz.

Im excited to see what they do with musa more then anything. The way her story is going is not a route i expected them to take, but i am excited to see where they end up with it. I really hope they continue this journey she is on next season.

If you like supernatural teenage dramas, this show is for tou. If you liked winx as a kid, i definitely think youll like this.
