The Shootist (1976)
7/10
Good "western" with special significance
10 December 2022
The movie doesn't feel like a traditional western because the gunfighting is very limited, making for an unconventional John Wayne's. And of course it is special because it was his last work. The script appears almost tailored around Wayne, creating on of the most accomplished swan songs ever, on a par with Johnny Cash's Hurt.

The movie on its own offers nothing special in terms of acting, screenplay or art, but it is so impactful in the way both the character and the actor are saying farewell, drawing the pistol for one last time. Worth a watch if you like the genre and want a twist on it, or if you admire Mr. Wayne.
