Monster High: The Movie (2022 TV Movie)
4/10
Be yourself, be unique, be a monster
9 October 2022
This movie is based off the MATTEL Monster High toys and some of the animated movies that were already released, and a recent animated show that came out on Nickelodeon; now Nickelodeon has made a live-action movie. Monster High: The Movie (2022) is not that great, but it has some things about it that make it not terrible to watch; I am not big on Monster High toys or any of the movies or shows, but I know as much as I can about this to understand it. Also, the movie is aimed for a younger audience, so young kids will like this movie more than I did.

The acting in the movie was not bad, and the actors playing these characters are doing their best with what they are given for this movie. The effects and makeup on the monsters were not that bad, but some of them did look silly, and there are uses of weird CGI from time to time with them when they use their certain abilities. The reveal of the main antagonist in the movie was obvious from certain things the character would say about a certain potion he is looking for, and goes into detail about where I could tell he was the villain; also, when he took his monster form, it was too weird looking and funny to watch whenever he was on screen in the third act climax.

The musical numbers in the movie were not that bad, they were choreographed well, and the actors do a respectable job in them singing good enough songs for the movie. The Monster High school did look cool and had ok CGI effects, and some of the set designs looked good like in a cemetery or in the school halls that did look cool, and I liked how they put it together. Sometimes the effect of the movie uses CGI, and it can look good, but most of the time it is clearly fake and unimpressive.

Monster High: The Movie (2022) is not great, but it is not doing any harm either; kids will enjoy the characters and the songs of the movie, and I can understand why they would like this movie, it just not my kind of thing. I liked the songs, the set designs, some of the effects, and the look and feel of Monster High; but most of the issues come from it feeling like a straight to DVD movie, and some of the plot lines in the movie are ok with the editing of the movie cutting during certain moments. Not a bad movie, but not a great movie, it is just not made for me.
