Harmless film, even if half-baked
28 September 2022
With Thanksgiving being my favorite holiday and since it wasn't a vulgar movie, I've inflated my score. Plus it's a treat to see Jon Heder of Napoleon Dynamite.

The actual story was a cookie cutter Lifetime-style romcom where a woman represses feelings towards her ex and has to endure her current beau, who is a complete piece of work. All the while she is tackling with a decision on whether to sell her company and has pressure from her family to get back with her ex.

The three main characters (the esquire, Samantha, and the comedian) were bland as white bread. No discernible chemistry between them and it wasn't interesting to watch them. The first half of the movie felt too satirical and overdone.

The remaining cast provided some comic relief. Once the grandpa, father, and Heder's characters had their chance to do some one liners, things picked up a bit. The romantic parts of the movie are commonplace and forgettable, but otherwise the running gags (such as the grandpa's penchant for sweets, the dad deep frying a turkey, and Charlie's nerdy personality) made it a bearable film.
