Review of Luck

Luck (I) (2022)
6/10

So many times during the movie I kept thinking to myself, "I wouldn't have gone that direction." There were plenty of opportunities to turn the attention from luck to a higher element of the human condition. There were also tons of missed opportunities to play harder on the comedic effect of both good and bad luck which they started with but lost sight of by the second act. The film started pretty great with some memorable laughs, and it even developed some pretty sympathetic characters right away. But the story dumbed down into a made-for-cable preschooler flick and just lost its charm amidst the thousand utterances of the word "luck."

The animation was lively in some of the bigger moments, but when focusing on character development, I felt like I was watching a college student's sophomore film project. Lip sync to the voice acting was stifled, facial expressions were flat and practically deadpan, and body motion was non-existent at some of the most emotional moments.

If you want a distraction you don't have to pay attention to very hard, this movie'll do ya. If you want the impact of Frozen, Toy Story, or even Despicable Me, this ain't it.
