What strikes me most about this film is its tone and its treatment of its tone. It's a slow burn of an experience; and despite it sags in spots, it lifts the majority of the time. Regardless, it's a mixed bag that is worth watching at least once if you're into independent films.
Emphasis is placed on a muted palette, often grainy exterior shots, dialogue that doesn't really count as meat on the bone, and a lack of urgency in the storyline. Why? Because these elements justify the film's title. In other words, the concept of melancholy is prevalent; and that's the only reason why this film gets an 8 by me. Continuity.
Not for the impatient or those frustrated by an unsatisfying ending.
