Damn the Defiant aka H. M. S. Defiant is a fine nice naval war movie with Alec Guinness and Dirk Bogarde shining in full Technicolor. The story is a well known mix of elements a la Mutiny on the Bounty and those classic Horatio Hornblower stories written by C. S. Forester. The production is great, the rest of the cast does also well. What prevents me to rate Defiant higher is the last act - whereas the beginning and mid section are strong and captivating, the last act (blockade of Rochefort) just feels hasty done and a little too cliched. Still, a good one, if you like such kind of movies/stories, of course.
