Best Sellers (2021) -

Alleged to be Michael Caine's last film outing, what a performance he gives for his swan song. To be honest, there are very few films where he hasn't been brilliant, 'Jaws (4): The Revenge' (1987) and 'Get Carter' (1971) are the only two that I can think of that were bad, but I would say that was mostly due to the film and not him in particular.

This film is definitely enjoyable for his portrayal of the cantankerous old writer too, but it's a slow burner and it's fairly obvious what's going to happen. For the most part it is clever and funny, but the second half does drag a little bit as things get slightly more serious.

It's a simple story that doesn't really take you very far, so there's not much to say about it in review. That doesn't mean that it's not a pleasurable watch, it's just not something that has any stand out moments that will define film history.

When I read the blurb, I didn't realise that it would be so bittersweet. I thought it would be more comedy and less drama, but the balance works.

I have to say that I wish my publisher wanted to promote my book this much.

Maybe one day that too will be turned in to a film and people will criticise me. I actually long for the day.
