Quite possibly the most boring animated film i've ever seen- Rio 2 suffers from nearly every sequel cliche in the book- never expanding on its story in a successful manor and being a complete drag to watch. I can't think of much I actually enjoyed about this movie. Catchy song or two maybe, but hell the music was so much better in the last one. Blu's kids were kinda cute I guess, but it's hardly enough to steer this film in the right direction- especially considering they forget that plot point almost entirely by the end. The film just has so much going on, so many plots, so many characters- and nothing is interesting. I mean it's literally a life or death situation for almost everyone and it's still about as bland as tomato soup- though to be fair- tomato soup is far superior than this travesty. It honestly amazes me how this franchise could already run out of steam so quickly, it loses its focus and derives on so much from other film sequels of the past. Hell, even Ice Age 5 had a more original plot than this one. In the end, Rio 2 is a forgettable and tedious mess- never doing anything unique to make it stand out from the endless slew of animated sequels in recent memory. It may add more to its characters story, but none of that matters if none of it is interesting- or at the very least- somewhat enjoyable.
