6/10
Really Quite Tedious!

Being The Ricardos

Overall it was far to clever for itself, it was as if a commissioned group of writers sat down with the specific idea of writing about Lucille Ball, looked for a problem week or what they thought was interesting and then built everything around that. There were some clear problems with this overly contrived approach.

I am sure Lucille Ball literally had a ball, this showed her as difficult, pedantic, moody, demanding and temperamental. Hardly a representative week in the life of a supremely talented comic actress.

It quite evident her life was work, work and more work, so there was, in reality, a tissue thin story.

The smart mouthed writing at one minute showed her being nasty to the close group of friends around her and then we were meant to believe they were inseparable confidants it just didn't work.

There was little chemistry between the leads even though they played their individual parts well.

It really was too much to patronise the audience by labouring over what was, is, and how, physical comedy is created, we have all seen Jackass!

At best this is a weak 6 outta 10, meaning for a biography on Lucille Ball I walked away knowing very little about her!
