Gimme Danger (2016)
7/10
A good documentary on the legendary Iggy Pop (and The Stooges!)
4 March 2022
While Gimme Danger doesn't do anything to reinvent or revolutionise the music documentary genre, it is satisfying and entertaining, and does The Stooges justice. As they're a no-nonsense, satisfying rock band, having a documentary about them that's similarly no-nonsense and satisfying feels appropriate.

It also benefits from having a good story to tell, as well as a focused one. Given The Stooges had a pretty short and eventful career, it helps ensure that things never drag or feel unfocused. Most of the interviews and bits of archive footage are all implemented well.

Plus having Iggy Pop himself feature so prominently as an interviewee is good, as he's very charismatic, cool, and fun to listen to. There's many documentaries about artists that either have no or few interviews with the musicians they're covering, so this definitely gives the documentary as a whole a boost.
