Not The Parent Trap
15 February 2022
I watched this movie based on some good ratings and Martin Mull. A 12 year-old city girl is foisted on her country-living grandfather for some bonding time. She is bored stiff and despises her grandfather whom she hasn't seen in years. In five minutes of film, her outright hatred turns into admiration and a deep abiding love. As things progress, her mother's 40 years of resentment toward her dad melt away in a record 30 seconds of filming, leaving the entire family healed and loving one another. Something in the Spanish even takes away the strains in the parents' marriage. It all culminates in a small town music fest where all of humanity is healed. There are a few mildly amusing hijinks along the way, but the story just never worked for me. It's always tempting to give at least a mediocre rating for a movie produced with solid actors, but Hollywood does put out more than a few uncareful products. There are better family movies out there. All in all, a disappointing watch.
