Warning: Spoilers
At the start of "The Other Wife," Kate Jennings is curious as to the identity of "Deb," the name she was called by a home intruder robbing her husband's safe. By the end of the film, Kate may still be looking for answers to that question.

Dr. Billy Jennings was a highly regarded physician who led a secret life as a bigamist who was married to both Kate and Deb. He was also a profligate who had made lousy investments and was driven deeper and deeper into debt.

It was not very credible that a perceptive person like Kate would not have recognized her husband's loose spending habits or what he was doing with his time away from her. It was a rude awakening when Kate meets Deb, and the two wives began to commiserate about their deceased husband who took his own life.

The filmmakers approach to this lurid topic was to try to keep things light and to focus on the bonding of Kate and Deb. The action was fast-paced with the villains, the thug Ed Warwick and the sleazy investment broker Craig Anderson seeking to intimidate the two resilient women.

A shortcoming of the film was that there were too many loose ends. It was not made clear what was the professional association of Ed and Craig. Another confusing narrative strand was the apparent fraudulent medical practice started by Billy as a money-making scheme to exploit sick people for false promises of miraculous cures for their ailments.

Still, the film was memorable for the two women leads. The performances were excellent, especially the actress playing Kate. Even when Kate takes a nasty tumble down the stairs, pain never truly enters into the equation in this light-hearted piece of fluff.
