Dallas 362 (2003)

Mixed Feelings
7 October 2021
I first saw "Dallas 362" as a young man some years ago and liked it well enough (though I had a lot less options for content to watch at that time), but upon rewatching it now as an older man I like it less. It is still an ok indie film but the flaws stand out to me more now and I find it less relatable at this stage in life. It's a film about young men and thus will be best enjoyed by young men I believe. Scott Caan plays that one role well, but having seen him play the same role in several films now it wears thin. The dialog was ok, nothing great; the cinematography was mixed -- some really good shots and some not so good; and the music was likewise mixed -- some good, some annoying (again more suited to younger people). The "Christian" character was over-the-top and annoying while Selma Blair was underutilized. Isla Fisher was good in a small role as was Kelly Lynch. Shawn Hatosy was mostly fine. I felt Jeff Goldblum didn't quite know what to do with his character, though not his fault really. The plot at the end didn't make a whole lot of sense either. So all in all a mixed bag -- some things to like, some not; it feels like a rough sketch at times, or underdeveloped, but that is to be expected with an indie film. So in summary, it's a film about twenty-somethings trying to drink, fight, and find their way in the world which may well appeal to just such a demographic. I rate it a 4/10.
