Coming of age films for teens have become predictable and stereotyped in recent years. And the boy meets girl, boy dumps girl (or girl dumps boy) theme has been done a hundred times. Ultimately, this film would have fallen into that predictable scenario, except for one issue; racism of Israelis for Arabs and Arabs for Israelis. As for the lesbian theme; it really does not make much of a difference; a hot romance and getting dumped is just as painful for lesbians as it is for heteros. The usual dysfunctional family is the setting for a teen's trip through early life decisions; most of them bad. Interesting for the insight of living in Israel with neighbors who constantly want to kill you, but are too weak and disorganized to do so. Insightful.
