So im new to the series. I was forced to watch the anime, but then I started to really like it. So I finished the anime twice.. and still had questions and mistakenly thought that these movies would hold answers...Nothing is answered at all. This is just a giant mess of random crap.
I was expecting more. That Rick and Morty episode made me think this was going to be amazing. But most of it was spent doing more of the same. And WTF is with the ending. Why did he walk away with the new girl and not with Asuka? That almost ruined the movie for me.
So Shinji keeps rejecting human instrumentality and his father keeps setting it back up to be with Yuewi. But we never spend any time as "instrumentality" we dont see what shapes their minds while in that state and its the one thing missing from this show. A brief throw away line " we have been here many times before" is all we get as an explanation and that was a bit lame.
I regret watching the movies now. They do not add anything to the story. I should have stopped after the anime, which was better!
