Similar to "Swallow" and just as psychologically traumatic
29 June 2021
This movie, whilst not pleasant viewing, was actually surprisingly well put together and had a psychological tension that I wasn't expecting.

There are alot of triggered 1* reviews because of the scenes around pregnancy trauma etc but these serve as a tool for the films drama and the main characters slip into paranoia and possible derangement.

There are some obvious similarities with titles like Rosemary's baby, but this isn't really about anything supernatural and the focus is more on the psychological turmoil of the main character as she navigates some common social issues amongst an ever growing sense of dread and uncertainty.

The protagonist is underappreciated and undermined at work, she is surrounded by relationships that tell her how to feel and what to do which she struggles against as she believes that falling pregnant is an identity that will make her more accepted in the world around her.

She quickly realises that her hopes and dreams are being manipulated by those in positions of trust and she falls into a spiral of hallucinations and questionable reality as the stresses boil to the surface.

We spin with her through to the end where she finally cracks but get what she wants (in a twisted kind of way)

Obviously not for everyone, but this is much better than most of what 2021 has offered from this genre to date.
