It took me more than 10 years to finally watch this film. Now that I found it on Netflix I had to take the chance. I rembered the awesome trailer but I was blown away by the film.
The Wachowskis put in all their nerdy production ideas from The Matrix and delivered an action packed, samurai sword swinging, blood thirsty flick of carnage, that still holds up today. I thought Hollywood was getting all PG-13 but not in that year of 2009. Look at the cover artwork: that is what you will get. It is not about honor, about tradition or the art of Martial Arts. It is about slicing, chopping, screaming and fighting for the sake of it. Still we get an easy plot to follow, some likeable characters and the cool voice of the evil Ninja master I didn't catch the name of.
Big Kudos for cinematography, choreography and the score. The range of weapons is killer! How doesn't love the use of Kusarigama? Check out the trivia section for some interesting background info.
