. . . the so-called "old flame" gets extinguished for good a couple of minutes before CHICKENS COME HOME concludes. Ollie has just pulled a gun to threaten vixen blackmailer Mae when his firearm discharges at point-blank range. The extortionist's body immediately goes limp, and her corpse stays that way through the rest of this sordid saga. The jaundiced Jezebel's chickens have come home to roast, and they'll soon be pushing up black dahlias.
