Kördügüm (2016)
8/10
Big business and family a cruel mix
15 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The main protagonists came from different backgrounds: one from a loving yet fractured family whilst the other, was from a cold, ruthless family. Their adversaries came from all areas of their lives and they seemed to be constantly under attack. Killing off one of the main protagonists fitted the storyline, however how the other dealt with it stripped away the integrity from the character, which was why we were invested in them all along. The writers let the series down here and that could have been handled differently. Also another unexplained event which didn't ring true was why Eylul's brother helped Murut when he was in trouble but not the protagonist. The finale was a satisfying end however. If you are a non-Turkish speaker, for your sanity, listen to the actors speak in their native language and read the subtitles! There were so many cultural subtleties to be gleamed from watching a series like this, particularly about how women a treated and social taboos. There were characters that you really loved and those you really hated but on various occasions you could help but switch your loyalties.
