Star Wars: Rebels: Shroud of Darkness (2016)
Season 2, Episode 18

This is a brilliant episode.

It starts with a great battle with Kanan and Ezra versus the two Inquisitors. It is cool how Kanan and Ezra work together and it is an entertaining fight.

We then have Kanan, Ezra and Ahsoka going to the secret Jedi temple to seek advice from Yoda on how to deal with the Inquisitors and the threat of the dark side which seems overwhelming.

All 3 have visions and lessons which are fascinating.

Kanan is seemingly bestowed the status of Jedi Knight as well as seeing a vision of the vanquished Grand Inquisitor who states he was a former Jedi Knight himself. He also is told the dark side is coming to take his apprentice.

Ezra is also told about the threat of the dark side and in visions of Yoda is told how the Jedi failed by being consumed by the dark side of fear, anger and war. He is told to seek Malichor which we learn is a place.

Ahsoka has visions of Anakin telling her she was not there to help him and gets feelings of his turn to the dark side. She also gets a nice farewell from Yoda.

This is all really interesting and powerful.

Finally we get a great ending as Vader visits the temple.

Hearing Frank Oz as Yoda and James Earl Jones as Vader is a huge plus and we get the voice of Anakin from Clone Wars as a bonus. I love his voice performance of Anakin in Clone Wars and it makes Anakin a better character than he was in the movies so it is great to have him back.

I rate this the best episode up to this point because it is so important story-wise and is superbly executed with plenty of powerful content without any problematic aspects. My only grumble is that the animation of Yoda is not great and Anakin does not look as good as in Clone Wars.

My rating: 9.5/10.
