As a slasher or otherwise. It's trying to go back to 80s slasher style, by only keeping what made some of it so hard to watch. With unlikeable characters that are either mean spirited or promiscuous, or both. You know won't last, and are here for writers to show how « inventive » they can be with their kills. You also have the selfless heroine you can't see being killed off, just by hearing her backstory. So half of the movie is easy to figure out, after watching the first ten or so minutes. When people start dying, in very ridiculous and violent ways, preventing us from being invested in thrilling parts, because there are none. Nothing suspenseful happened either, just blood and gore with two death scenes that would've been disturbing, if both actresses could act. The rest is probably the only decent part of the movie, which is unfortunately ruined by the killer's motive. That is supposed to make us feel for him/her... Not. Apart from Jaime King, who made me want to watch this, and a couple of supporting actors. The rest of the cast, including Malcolm McDowell, is here to kill time. So to speak. Of course, studios planned a sequel, but it never got one. And you can easily guess why, after watching this... Remake? Reboot? What is it exactly?
