It could Have Been Grest

Warning: Spoilers
I do not agree with the politics of the movie ( especially with labeling the Border Patrol murderers and corrupt). That said What does work is the relationship between Texas Sheriff Grant and illegal alien Miranda ( she is beautiful and you get a few nice shots of her in the buff). The relationship is not forced, and they have more in common then you might think. They both like poetry, and are uncomfortable with relationships, but really like each other. She spills coffee on him while waiting on him , and he tries to cook food for her and spills it. They also love the law ( but believe in justice). She came from a Central American county ( Guatemala) where she studied to be a lawyer, but the police are corrupt ( so she is frightened of Walt), and he comes from a family of cops. One interesting scene is where she asks him if he has a wife, and he says "They say I am not the marrying kind." She says quietly "I don't think they know" Basically, she knows he would actually make a good husband. Spoilers ahead; Miranda sees Grant's brother along with the Border Patrol kill people so Grant is forced to choose between his brother and Miranda. Of course, he does choose Miranda ( with not the least bit of hesitation). In the end, Grant saves Miranda by killing the most corrupt of the Border Patrol officers ( Brian Bloom), and arrests his brother. So, not only is Miranda able to stay but her nephews as well ( they were separated early in the movie). Why? I am sure the Federal Government did not want it coming out that Border Patrol agents are corrupt murderers so it is easier to have the whole incident go away in exchange for Miranda and her nephews being allowed to stay. Finally, Grant marries Miranda ( a very effective scene is with a silver rope where a man is tied together with his wife so the bonds cannot be broken). In the last scene you see them driving together and they are very content and happy with each other. 8/10 stars. 10 for the story and characters minus 2 for the politics.
