Review of Nightwing

Titans: Nightwing (2019)
Season 2, Episode 13
6/10
A decent episode marred by a crazy writing decision

*Spoiler alert

I knew this episode was the lowest rated in the entire series, and caught myself wondering why, because for most of it, it was pretty much average for the series, if not slightly above.

Then we get the insane writing choice to kill off Donna Troy at the end, after all the fighting, after the villains have been stopped, on what is essentially a pointless random accident.

There was no emotional weight behind it, it felt senseless and pointless. If she had been killed by Deathstroke, or even by Superboy while he was still brainwashed, it would have had meaning and an impact.

As it is, it feels almost like an afterthought, like they'd already shot the episode and then spontaneously decided to get rid of her before season 3 but didn't want to change any of the major story events to give it meaning.

In that respect, it reminds my of the death of Tasha Yar on Star Trek The next Generation.

This could have been done so much more elegantly.
