A Charming and Picturesque Short
11 June 2020
Shot in aesthetic black and white "A Day in the Country" is a pretty tale of scenic idylls and seduction. When a family of Parisians go on a vacation to the country their jolly innocence of interaction is reflected on the bucolic surroundings. Two local men notice the gameable among the females and plot a path of seduction leading to disappointment and regret. The film in its short scope covers life's dual nature of light and dark where underneath its wholesome facade a shade of complexity lies. Poetic, dreamy and pretty this artifact from a bygone age commemorates Renoir's mastery of film and is a breezy gem showing the appeal of the silver screen in elegance and simplicity.
