Warning: Spoilers
A young woman, Lee Maxson, is the biggest fan of the poet Sarah Miles. But she also has a secret desire to be Sarah's soulmate. The film opens with Lee reading Sarah's single published volume of verse called "Secret Echoes." But the film will explore the secret, sordid echoes of twisted mind of Lee Maxson.

The film is successful in developing Lee's obsession. It also shows that Sarah's response to pull away from the controlling Lee is valid. The problem of Lee is that she really isn't Sarah's soulmate. Her own narcissistic needs drive her and make Lee's glass appear to be perpetually empty.

The body count in the film piles up awfully high. As a youngster, Lee had murdered her abusive father, then made it appear as a suicide. She also allowed her domineering mother to die in a pitiless act of neglect. Lee murdered Sarah's husband Daniel, a serial philanderer who struck Sarah on the face. When the slap was witnessed by the voyeuristic Lee, she plugged Daniel in a parking garage after a visit to his most recent mistress.

Other casualties in the film include the private investigator who makes the mistake of breaking and entering into Lee's house. Sarah's publisher Will gets conked over the head. And Sarah's best friend Nina is an apparent survivor of Lee's attempt to poison her and later knock her unconscious.

Sarah Miles has moved into uncharted territory with a traumatic experience with a soulmate. She titles one of her poems "Uncharted" and publishes it in her new collection called "After." Sarah is picking up the pieces on a shattering episode in her life, and she is channeling her experience into art.
