The 1st series of 'Revenge' barely put a foot wrong in terms of stories, let alone whole episodes, so that's what makes this 1st episode of S2 all the more jarring.
Everything feels different. The route to revenge for Emily has changed, all the characters seem to have changed from how they were before, and it's a bit jarring for the viewer. I longed for the days of Emily crossing people off with her sharpie.
There's one good twist midway through the episode, but this episode did lack the quality the 1st series had in spades.
