Not A Typical Ghost Story
12 March 2020
Lacking even a modicum of effects in terms of making the ghost or supernatural events scary, but a decent enough story and some good performances. Another reviewer's claim that the film is "political propaganda" is absurd. There is no "Armenians good; Turks bad" agenda in the story. The story features both noble and ignoble Armenian characters and is NOT simply about vilifying the Turks or Turkey. It is a fictional story with some connections to the Armenian genocide which is documented historical fact, rather like "The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas" was a fictionalized story set in the WWII Holocaust era. I wasn't thrilled by this movie, but was reasonably entertained by it.
