Katharine Hepburn wins

Ada Love (Katharine Hepburn), stage name Eva Lovelace, is an amateur actress from Vermount looking for her big break on Broadway. She's talkative and driven. She befriends older actor RH Hedges. Spoiled diva actress Rita Vernon is tired of light comedies and wants a more substantive role. Louis Easton is the producer. Joseph Sheridan (Douglas Fairbanks Jr.) is the writer. Rita takes the lead role with a promise of a better role in the next play. Months later, Eva is struggling and Hedges brings her to an industry party. She gets drunk and Sheridan is taken with her.

Katharine Hepburn won the Oscar for lead actress. Like her character, this is her break-out role. She turns from a compelling newcomer to an industry darling. This movie does need to be more about her. She needs to have more bad jobs as she struggles to get into the business. Instead, a lot of this seems to be people talking about her. She is nevertheless Katharine Hepburn and she is undeniable.
